Time for yourself, without the guilt
Caring for yourself isn’t selfish. Ten minutes that are yours alone may be the most important thing you do, for you and for the people you love.
Many of us grew up believing that a good mother, wife or daughter always gives and never asks. But an empty jug can’t pour. When you care for yourself, you come back to the people around you with more patience and more energy.
Start small
You don’t need a full day at a spa. Find ten minutes in your day and make them yours:
- A cup of coffee on the balcony before the house wakes up.
- A short walk after lunch.
- A few pages of a book, or a call with a friend who makes you laugh.
- One of Ammouna’s ten-minute workouts.
Say “no” kindly
You don’t have to accept every invitation or carry every task. A simple “I can’t this time” protects your time without hurting anyone. And ask for help: sharing housework across the family teaches responsibility and gives you room to breathe.
Speak to yourself as you would to a friend
If a friend told you she was exhausted, would you call her lazy? Give yourself the same kindness. Your body carries you every day, and it deserves thanks, not blame.
Make it a habit
Put your own time in the calendar the way you would any important appointment. Over time the people around you will learn that these minutes are yours, and you will learn that you deserve them.
